Um total de 124 documentários foram inscritos para concorrerem no 88º Academy Awards. A Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas divulgou a lista completa dos filmes que disputam uma vaga na indicação a Melhor Documentário na edição 2016 da premiação mais consagrada do cinema.
Entre os títulos mais famosos estão Amy, Cobain: Montage of Heck, Cartel Land, Os Irmãos Lobo, Malala e Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief – este último, vencedor do Emmy 2015.
Em dezembro, a Academia divulga uma lista com os 15 pré-selecionados, enquanto a divulgação final dos indicados acontecerá no dia 14 de janeiro. A cerimônia de premiação ocorre no dia 28 de fevereiro.
